BUILDING FOUNDATIONS
PILE DRIVING Course Of Underground Creeks j The existence of undeground creeks which at various points cross I Broadway and find an outlet at the j lake in Victoria Park has necessitated a considerable amount of pile driving to secure solid foundations for modern business premises erected in Stratford. On occasions there has been dlf. : Acuity in securing accurate informs- | tion as to the course of these creeks I although their location is remembered by a number of the older residents of the town. However some very helpful data in the form of notes and sketch plans was prepared by the late Mr G, Curtis and these papers weer found to be of great assistance in constructing ’ the foundations for the bulk store and ' Broadway shop extension in course of erection for Mr C. A. Wilkinson. | In all 56 reinforced concrete piles | were driven to an average depth of |26 feet. For the Farmers' Co-op new I building, which is the area affected Iby underground creeks, piles were ! driven to a depth of over 40 feet. In | that case however the piles were of silver pine wood.
