SHOP ASSISTANTS
PROPOSED AWARD Position Of Smaller Towns The opinion that the proposed shopasEistants’ award as originally drafted would not be in the best interests of the employees or the employers was expressed by a Stratford retailer to the “Central Press” to-day. Apart from the fact that a barrier would be created between the worker end the employer, he pointed out that a good many business firms could not afford to meet the demands of the proposed award. He disagreed entirely with a statem nt 'attributed to Mr G. Fleming, secretary of the Taranaki Amalgamated Shop Assistants’ Industrial Union, that the cost of living for in smaller towns was relatively equal Io that ia larger towns Th j Taranaki Empoyert’ Association hrs appointed »a representative to attend a meeting at Wellington early next month at which assessors will be appointed' preparatory to the hearing of the dispute in Conciliation Ocicil.
