MAD KILLER
HORRIFYING CRIMES Fantastic Murders Eight fantastic murders by a “mad killer” in two and a half years offer Cleveland police a problem which they are so far unable to solve. Some weeks ago portions of the body of a woman, the eighth victim, were found. The rest of her torso was found float- i ing in Lake Erie some time after. Women killed have been thrown into the lake, but the men have been tossed into a stream running through the city. In all cases the heads are missing. The medical theory is that they were cut off while the victims were still alive. Coroner Gerber says the murderer j has expert knowledge of anatomy, and ! adds: “There are no marks of violence, suggesting that the victims probably knew the murderer well.” Only three bodies have been identified. Police believe the murderer is a sex-crazed madman. A woman was first slain on September 5, 1934. After a year the bodies of two men. headless and nude, were I found in the same stream. Four months later a woman’s body was found floating in the lake. Five months passed and a man’s body was found. The sixth victim was murdered two months later.
