PETROL TAXATION

ROAD CONSTRUCTION Highways Council’s Resolution “There is any amount of money, the country is prosperous, in fact it if too proseprous,” declared Mr W. C. Green, chairman of the Egmoni County Council, at to-day’s annual meeting of the No. 7 District Highways Council at Stratford, in stating that the time had (arrived when the 4d per gallon petrol taxation should be handed to 'the Highways Board for road construction. He moved accordingly. Mr F. W. Lindup (District Engineer) who presided, said that the m: liter was not a new one and he cud not know whether there was any prospect of relief. Mr T. R. Anderson, chairman of the Stratford County Council, said the allocation of the petrol tax was? really, a matter of Government policy. However, there* would be no harm in letting the Government know the feelings of the council. Mr Green’s motion was supported, and on the suggestion of Mr W. Morrison, member of the Highways Board, a copy of the resolution will be forwarded to the Automobile Association.
