DEATH OF J. M. BARRIE
NOTED SCOTTISH PLAYWRIGHT Original of “Peter Pan” At Bedside Press Association— Copyright. London, June 20. The death has occurred of Sir James Matthew Barrie, 0.M., LL.D. (Edinburgh (and'St. Andrews), L.Utt. (Oxford and Cambridge), the noted Scottish novelist and playwright. The original of Barrie’s famous character "Peter Pan,” died peacefully after sevettal hours of unconsciousness. It is recalled' that Barrie, 35 years ago, was walking in Kensington Gardens when he saw Peter Davies playing with his three brothers. They bedame his friends and inspired him to create a boy who would not grow up. Barrie later adopted the brothers, of whom only Peter and Nicho-' las are still alive. Sir James, who was 77 years old. Wad been president of the Society of Authors since 1928 and Chancellor of the Universify of Edinburgh since 1930.
