RADIATA PINE
UTILITY SOFT WOOD . Value Demonstrated In Australia Radiata pine £kmber, otherwise known as Pinus insignia, has not been developed' ;to any considerable extent in New Zealand, but in South Australia, where the first attempt to place it on the market for purposes other than ithe manufacture of boxes was made eight or nine ■ye’ars ago, its value as a general ability softwood has been clearly demonstrated. Special reference to ithe uses, of this class of timber is made by Mr. G. J. Dodger, B.Sc. (For.), 1.F.A., Conservator of Forests for South Australia in the annual report <of the operations of the- Woods and Forests Department of the State. A description of the numerous uses for which this (timber has already become- firmly established in the State is given in the report. For building purposes the principal I lines' marketed) are for flooring, match-board, weatherboards and other mouldings. Many millions of feet ol these products have been disposed lof during the last few years, and ■ house builders appear to appreciate i the fact 'that narrow boards make a I superior floor.
