STAMP COLLECTING
Stratford Philatelists Meet
The Stratford section of the Taranaki Philatelic Society met on Wednesday evening, in St. Andrew’s Hall, Mr. A. Rum ball presiding. With a view to making the meeting of some educational value to the less experienced members, a brief demonstration of the correct method of mounting stamps was given. The advantages of using the best quality mounts, in preference to the cheaper sorts, were also illustrated. Next meeting a 'talk on the method of measuring perforations will be given. Mr. Bond gave a talk on some of his experiences during nearly twenty years of stamp collecting, mentioning particularly the advantages possessed by young collectors of the present day, who by joining a philatelic society or stamp club, had access to the knowledge and experience of its more advanced members. Had such facilities been evailable in his youth, many of the mistakes made in hit 1 earlier days of collecting could have been avoided. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded Mr. Bond. This was followed by a /talk and display by Mr. Rumball, the subject being the first English stamps, the methods adopted by postal authorities, to make the forgery of the stamps difficult being fully explained.
It was decided to hold the next meeting on June 30, when a collection of Italian commemorative stamps will be displayed.
