MOST SPECTACULAR EVER SEEN

LAVISH WEDDING

Miss Jeanette MacDonald

Press Associatiou —Copyright. Hollywood, June 16

The marriage of the actress-singer, Miss Jeanette MacDonald, to the actor Gene Raymond to-night will go down in history as Hollywood's most spectacular wedding. Attended by more than 1000 cinema notables, the event cost £5OOO.

The wedding was the essence of formality, with white-gloved ushers, long pink ribbon down the aisles, candles and thousands of roses. The bride’s elaborate gown was flesh pink mousseline over taffeta of the same colour.

The service opened with the singing of “I love you truly” by Nelson Eddy; who was Miss MacDonald’s costar in several films, the latest being “Rose Marie.” Wild excitement prevailed Outside the church, where a police squad was frequently powerless to control the surging crowd, which cheered the arriving and departing guests. It was predicted that 10,000 uninyited guests would be present. More than twice that number manhandled Miss Banky baroque in 1927 and tore off her clothing as souvenirs, for which reason virtually all Hollywood weddings since then have been private.

The bridal attendants included the actresses Misses Fay Wray and Ginger Rogers, and the ushers the actors Harold Lloyd and Basil RiLhbone.
