Exciting chases, dramatic clashes, dashes of comedy and a piquant love story which serves as *a. romantic sauce, are .the ingredients of Columbie’s latest concoction of entertainment, “Counterfeit Lady.” Two excellent performers, Joan Perry and Ralph Bellamy, are coZecitured at the head of a splendid caste. The story, novel and smoothly developed, contains strong suspense. The action succeeded in keeping the audience thrilled throughout ths entire picture. Miss Perijy, a beautiful and splen-, did young actress starts things by stealing -a, rare diamond. Ralph nellamy is a young private detective in whom neither police nor crooks appear to have confidence. The audience, from the first, is as much intrigued by Bellamy’s character as by that of Miss Perry’s It seems paradoxical that Bellamy, a decent enough young fellow, should employ his own personal gang and use illegal methods in order to get the jewel away from Miss Perry. It looks rather certain, from the beginning, that the jeweller, as portrayed by Douglass Dumbrille, is no; .he honest gem merchant he pretends .o be. But—Bellamy’s job of recovering the jewel is an assignment, from Dumbrille. Hence the immediate plot complication.
