STRATFORD ROWLING CLUB

SEASON REVIEWED

Reduction Of Liabilities

The report to be presented to the thirty-seventh annual meeting of the Stratford Bowling Club to be held next week states that a satisfactory financial season was experienced and liabilities had been reduced considerably. Good bowling weather was scarce but all Shield matches were completed in reasonable time. The Club wis successful the Centre Division matches, but were eliminated in the semi-final with the Park Club, who played the final for the Shield with West End. The Club’s ane-day tournament arranged for March 17th, had to be cancelled on account of wet weather; but the one held on April 17th was very satisfactory, when all available green

accommodation was occupied. As in former years, the Club was well represented at all the important tournaments of the season; one rink composed of Messrs. Furrie, Summerfield. Butcher, and Williams (skin), attaining the position of rvnner-un in the New Year tournament at New Plymouth. Club competitions were won as follows: —W. Harris (A. Championship); G. S. Gatton (B. Championship); C. Bailey (Junior Championship); J. Butcher (Higgs Cup). The competitions for the Wilson Cup and Handicap Par’s were not completed. Since last Annual Meeting, the Club suffered severe loss by the death of Messrs.* J. S. Lyons, A. Cook, and A.

B. Brown. Mr Lyons was a member for many years, filled all the important offices, and was exceptionally popular with all members. The president, Mr H. Summerfield, thanks all officers of the Club for faithful support during his term of office; also the ladies for generous assistance in the refreshment rooms.
