Preparing For Record Year

(By Air Mail). London, May 22. As a result of the Government's

Fitness Campaign the present summer season in England promises to break all records for outdoor sports, Involving an expenditure of approximately £150,000,000, according to some authoritiei. Throughout the country municipalities and local authorities have prepared new tennis courts, .bowling greens, athletic grounds, golf courses, and swimming pools.

Tennis- still leads as Britain’s most popular summer sport, with nearly 3,000,000 devdtees. At -the end of Mat year, 2700 clubs were affiliated -to the Lawn Tennis Association —and the number should be greatly increased this year. There are now more than a million regular golfers, about a quarter of whom ure women. On an average they spend £3O to £6O a year on the game. Britain is also becoming a land of summer lidos. Municipal schemes for enclosed IL,ths and swimming pools alone will cost some £1,500,000 this year.
