IRRESISTIBLE FORWARDS

WIN FOR SPRINGBOKS Cricket Score Against Country Team Press Association —Copyright. Sydney, June 16.

the South African Rugby team beat ft. combined Western Districts team at Orange to-day by 63 points to none after leading 29—0 at halftime.

The Springboks are en route from Melbourne to Sydney, where they will begin the serious part of their programme. To-day’s was their first gftme in New South Wales. The Springboks’ giant forwhrds were irresistible in Ithe early stages, joining the backs in passing bursts, and three tries were quickly scored,. Play veered to the right wing, where Turner ran strongly. Later lack of condition was noticeable and the country -tttim rallied. The home players tacked solidly, but towards the end the heavier visitors carried all before them, scoring a succession of tries.

A feature was the splendid goal kicking of Brand, who converted nine of the 13 tries end kicked, .two penalty goals. Van de Vyver gave an attractive’ exhibition at five-eighths, taking De Villiers’ swift passes cleverly. Determination and speed led to his scoring three tries. Lawton on (the left wing played with great vigour but could not get through till near the end. Babrow was the better of the centres, White being uncertain. Brand gave an excellent all-round display.

The forwards, with great weight 'and packing tight a 3-4-1 formation, carried the scrums and won moslt of the loose rucks. They also showed skill in passing rushes. Their backing up was splendid and, mainly through this, they scored six of the team's 13 tries. Lotz, Van Reenan and the Louw brothers were all grdat, but the majority of the players were still short of really good condition and they are anxious lest New South Wales should be able to take advantage of this fact on Saturday.

The only real casualty in ,the team at the moment is Williams, an outstanding winger. His injured muscle above the knee is improving and he may be fit for the tedt on Saturday week.
