ESCAPE FROM CUSTODY
Young Maori At Large Prdss Association—Copyright. Kaikohe, June 15. After having combed the rough scrub-covered country of Matauri Bay, a 'settlement inhabitated by Maoris with the exception of one or two white settlers, the police have not yet been successful in 'arresting u Maori youth, aged about 17 years, who made 1 his escape by breaking from 'the Mangonui county gaol on the night of June 6. Full details are not available, but iit is stated thiat the youth rode from Mangonui on ia. bicycle, which has since been recovered. Constable E. Buckley, of Whangaroa, traced his movements to Mctauri Bay. On Saturday Constable Buckley was joined by Constable Smith, of Mangonui. .The assistance cf some of the settlers was obtained this morning and the search is being continued.
