VARIATION OF LICENSE

OBJECTION MADE Transport Authority Sitting Mr P. Skoglund, No. 2 Transport Licensing Authority, held la sitting at the Stratford Courthouse this morning. A. H. Frank, Strathmore, who was represented by Mr S. Macalfelter, applied for a variation of his goodsservice license to permit the carriage of manure land other classes of goods from the Te Wera station to settlers in the. district. Mr Macalister said there was no carrier within 12 miles and sometimes' it was not convenient for other carriers to go to .the sthtlon. He put in a petition signed by 29 settlers in support of the application. Mr R. R. Tyrer, on behalf of Messrs E. Howait and D. Moualt objected toi the variation. He said (that the license hied been objected to on a previous- -occasion. The applicant had advertised thalt he wi,s -the holder of a license before he had- got one and it was indicative of the rrJan's actions throughout. Applicant haid. a license to carry stack but he was not authorised to carry goods. “Here is a man with a soldier's llarnr who is doing other work,” said Mr Tyrer. “If he was fair .about it we wouldn’t mind." In evidence applicant said he had a license only for pigs and calves but . he had been under the impression i that he Wa.J- a full license. Mr Skoglund: Have you been carrying other goods? Applicant replied that he had made I occasional trips. Evidence was given by W. Howait, j Douglas, land D. Mouat, Te Wera, - that their carriers service was sal isfactory and there had been no compla nts from the settlers in regard to the facilJties available. -Applicant’s license was varied to provide tor the cartage of manure, operations tQ and from the rail to be confined to ;’ie To Wera station. He was also given the right to carry pigs and calves as before. J. 11. Cave, Elthjm, was -granted a license for ths (ferriage of general goods in the Strut; mil and EJtham counties.
