OIL IN TARANAKI
Interest Of Visitor Press Association—Copyright. Auckland, June 15. Interest in the search for oil in the Taranaki district was expressed by Mr R. J. Fraser, mining engineer, of Western Invernessliire, Scotland, who arrived yesterday by the ' Rotorua from London. “What would happen if payable deposits were located?” Mr Fraser asked. “From what I have read of recent progress in New Zealand I am inclined to suspect that the Government would have a large hand in things. It would surely realise the value of oil as much as any "private enterprise. It might be worth while spending more on carrying out a thorough search and experiments in the region, which gives promise of oil production.” Mr Fraser said he came to New Zealand for no special purpose apart from visiting its scenic resorts. In two weeks’ time lie intended to go to Australia to participate in a travel expedition through the interior to Darwin. Later he hoped to fly to Singapore and visit the Malay States, where he has interests in tin.
