DISMAY IN ARMY
POPULAR PRIEST ARRESTED Catholics Fear Trouble Prerf Association—Copyright. London, June 14. The arrest of Father Rupert Mayr on “technical charges,’ has dismayed the army as Father Mayr is regarded as one of Bavaria’s national heroes, says the Berlin correspondent of the Daily Telegraph. He lost both legs in the war and was awarded the highest military honours for his services as chaplain. Father Mayr answered Dr. Goebbel's attack on Archbishop Mundelein of Chicago by -declaring: “It is better for a priest to be shot down in Spain than to see the faith dragged in the dirt in Germany.” Herr Paul Haber protested to the Government that Father Mayr’s arrest was a breach of the Vatican Concordat. Despite the restraint imposed on Catholics the agitation for his release is increasing daily. The Catholics feel that unless the authorities act immediately there may be an outbreak of violence.
