MODERN FACILITIES . ADDITIONAL STATIONS TO BE ERECTED Hawke’s Bay And Southland First Press Association—Copyrignt. Wellington, June 15. Arrangements for the extension of the national broadcasting service by the provision of addition, al stations were announced la6t evening by the Acting-Minister m charge of Broadcasting, Hon. F. Jones. The first of (these new stations are to be tn Hawtke’s Bay amd Southland. “In pursuance of the Government’s policy to give an adequate broadcasting service throughout the Dominion, further modern are to be erected,” s*aid Mr Jones. “After investigation it has been deci'd-ed to attend to the Southland and Hawke’s Bay areas first, and in a few days tenders fare being called for transmitters to serve ithose two districts. “Neither the exact positions of the transmitters nor their power can be decided until ithe completion of suitable tests. From calculations based on general data available, however, it is thought that a power of /the order of five kilowatts will be necessary at each station in order /to give >a. field strength sufficient to overcome the normal noise level.”
