Recognition of 25 years’ consistent service to women’s hockey in Taranaki was accorded Mr H. C. Johnson, Stratford, at the conclusion of the hockey tournament at Hawera on Wednesday when he was presented with a medal commemorating his being made the first life member of the Taranaki Women’s Association. The presentation was made by Mrs M. Priest, a member of the association executive. Mr Robert Derretit, one of the greatest jockeys New Zealand has known, died al. h’*. home at Ricdarton yesterday.
