RECIPROCITY DESIRED Request From Farmers’ Union The monthly meeting of the Stratford Chamber of Commerce, held on Tuesday night, was attended by Messrs F. T. Hale (president), D. R. McLean, H. F. Vosseler, J. 8.. Richards, L. J. Rowell, C. E. Scott (Postmaster), F. W. Lindup (Public Works Engineer), and O. Lyons) acting-secretary). Feeling that reciprocity between the two bodies would be of. mutual advantage, the Stratford sub.provincial executive of the Farmers' Union asked that the chamber appoint a representative to act on the executive.

“If it would provide reciprocity between town and country it would be a good idea, but whether the ideas of the chamber and the Farmers’ Union could be co-ordinated is another matter,” said Mr Richards.

The Union is to be advised that the matter will receive attention alt the next meeting of' the chamber. Passengers arriving by train about 2 am. and waiting till 5 a.m. to depart again found it impossible to get even a cup of tea wrote Mr W. Hoskin. He inquired whether it would be possible for the nightwatchman to have a key to the rest room to provide refreshments.

It was resolved that the president, make inquiries and report to next meeting. On the motion of Mr Richards it was resolved 1 that ithe chamber strongly urge the encouragement of importation of benzine through the port of New Plymouth and that any scheme of fixation of prices be based on these cogtg. The Postmaster wrote advising that as from May 24 the ’clearance of the porting boxes in the public lobby for local delivery )n the afternoon had bepn altered from 2 p.m. to 1.45 p.m. The Ngaire Co-op. Dairy Company was elected a member of the chamber.
