LITTLE HEADWAY AT CONFERENCE

TRANSPACIFIC SHIPPING DIFFICULTIES AHEAD Higher Expenditure In Building Ships

Press Association —Copyright. (Received 11.30 am.) London, June 9. The committee of the Imperial Conference dealing with Trans-Pacific shipping, met immediately after breakfast in an endeavour to make headway, and to avoid the possibility of discussions extending after the termination of (he Conference. However, there are still no decisions in sight. This afternoon the delegates will confer with Sir Edward Beatty, chairman of the Canadian Pacific Company. One of the major difficulties of the momeut is that substantially higher expenditure ,would be involved in building new ships, compared with ■ the original estimates, at’ a result of increased ship-building costs. The difficulty also remains of reconciling the figures of shipping companies and those of Government experts.
