Derbyshire completed their second beat innings score o-f the season on. a perfect wicket, after being given a magnificent start by Smith and Aiderman. The New Zealand bowlers stuck gamely to a difficult task, dismissing seven battmen in the three hours after lunch. Cowie bowled with Jons of energy, but did not have an ounce of luck. Dunning also bowled better than his final figures suggest. Page was never scored from freely. Vivian captured a valuable wicket, while Donnelly proved inexpensive and effective after tea. New Zealand, after a tiring day in the field, had almost an hour to bat, but bad light ttopped play.
