HUSBAND’S DEATH
KNOCKED DOWN BY CAR Compensation For Widow Press Association—Copyright. Hamilton, June 5. Approval w»as given by Mr Justice Fair in the Hamilton Supreme Court to-day to a compromise in the> case in which Mrs Vera Kathleen Rowe, widow, Cambridge, sought to recover £3OOO damages' from Peter Samuel Lewis, law clerk, Auckland, as compensation for herself and her .foiir children. Th e claim arose out, of a fatal accident which occurred near Cambridge on the nighit of October 2.7Plaintiff’s husband, C. R. V. Rowe, wa fc walking home when he was struck by a car driven by defendant. H e received injuries from which he died in the Waikato Hospital on the following day. At the inquest, defendant was exonerated from blame. In plaintiff’s statement of cjlaim, she attributed the accident to defendant’s negligence. Defendant denied negligence, and alleged that the accident was due to the contributory negligence on the part of deceased. By -an arrangement made by Mr N. S. Johnson for plaintiff and by Mr J. F. Strang for defendant, it waS agreed that plaintiff should receive £'Bso, £250 for herself and £l5O tor each of her four children. His Honour concurred in the agreement.
