MAY LIQUIDATE

WANGANUI A. & P. SHOW Court Decision On Salary Arrears j Liquidation may be Knrd necessary • by the Wcngianui Agricultural and ! Pastoral Aseocia ion as a result of a ; Magistrate’s decision that the former ■ secretary wo:.; 1 have to he paid ad. ; rears in salary amounting to £123. ■ This opinion was freely expressed at I a special meeting of the executive j called on Thursday to discuss the ' position. After the Magistrate’s decision had ; been read the treasurer reported that the association had a credit balance, in the general account of £45 7s lid, and in the building fund of £660. -i Current liabilities amounted to £35 ]■ in the general account. •I The chairman, Mr A, D. Donaldson, ’■ said- the Magistrate’s decision wus J final, and the association would have to find the amount which had been f claimed by the inspector of factories on behalf of the former secretary. It i would be obvious, however, that the i present stlite of the association’s fipi ances did not permit l of thp amount ' being found forthwith, and unless i| satisfactory arrangements could be , made the position was very serious : from the association’s point of view. After tli,e position had been discussed in committee, the executive adopted tire following resolutions: I “That the assoctetion’s honorary i solicitor be asked to approach the inj spector of factories with a view to : obtaining an extension of time for ! the payment of the former secretary. I “That the local members of Parlia- ; ment and the Mayor of Wanganui be ; approached with the object of having the effect of the legislation in this matter brought to the notice of the Government.

“That in the event of the association obtaining no assistance as a result of the above negotiations steps be taken to call a special meeting of members of the association so that they may be made conversant -with the facts and thereupon decide whether th e A. and P. Association should wind up its affairs." It was pointed out that lat the end of the last financial year, December 31, 1936, the association had a credit balance of only £6O. This was the nett result of four suicessful shows which had been held since the association was revived in 1933, and it was considered that the association has had too big an uphill struggle to accept without protest a further heavy enlarge of £ 123. It was also pointed out that the £660 in the building £und was held in trust for the special purpose of repairing and adding to the buildings belonging to the association, and that this money could not b e divested to any other purpose.
