ELLERSLIE RACES

OPENING TO-MORROW Review Of The Fields (BY “ODDS ON.”) The Auckland Racing Club’s winter meeting opens on Saturday when larg e fields will contest the events scheduled, on the single pool basis; 75/25 per cent. GREENLANE STEEPLECHASE, of £3OO. About two miles and a half. — Pango 10.9, Lucidus 10.5, Emancipation, Illuminagh 10.4, Kinkle 10.0, St. ! Musk 9.12, Sky Pilot, London 9.3, Booklaw, Gascyne, Hot Dance, Tea Chat, Domo 9.0. Pango and Lucidus are both fit. and should be icmongst the favoured division. St Musk won so well at Te Rapa, that the 121bs more alloted him will not prevent him being perhaps the elect, but Sky Pilot may have improved sufficiently with the experience gained in his recent starts, to fully extend them all. Emancipation, Illuminagh and Kinkle -are good sorts in this class and possess. l good' prospects. Gascyne may be the best improver amongst the rest but thote filling the places may be SKY PILOT, ST. MUSK, PANGO * * * JERVOIS HANDICAP, of £3OO. Seven furlongs.—Surella, Grand City 9.11, Black Musk 9.7, Strathire, Tip Toes, Philemup 9.6, Survoy 9.2, Valspear 9,0, Small Boy, Keno 8.12, Pirate King, Farland 8.11, Gay Rebel, Erndale 8.9, Bass 8.5, Waitaka, Thangi lamba, Mai de Mer, Bryce Street, Malagigi, Alyth, Royal Passage, Locknit, Captain Bruce, Carshalton, Hopalong, Very Glad, Melvanui, Tane, Mahotu 8.0. A very large field of thirty acceptors containing proved ones and many good improvers will tax patrons. Black Musk may be first choice closely followed by Philemup, Tip Toes, Pirate King, Valspear, SurYoy, Erndale and 4h e two recent winners in hollow fashion, Keno and Farland. Gay Rebel, and Very Glad both maidens, with Bryce Street and Malagigi possess fair chances, whilst Bass, Strathire, Hopalong and Al»y-th are not chanceleLs. The race bears perhaps >the most open aspect of any on the -day’s programme. Possible place getters may be BLACK MUSK, PHILEMUP, PIRATE KING. * * * PENROSE HURDLES, of £2OO. One mile and three-quarters.—Spear-court, Collision 11.0, Lady Ruler 10.4, Gay Broney 9.12, Court Arma 9.6, High Star, Keith Lu, Red Fox, Hunts? man’s »Chorus, La Femme Noire, United, Gadger 9.0. Spearcourt and Collision have recent winning form and may be public choice here. Lady Ruler has won well over hurdles this season and High Star has been placed. Court Arma will need to improve lots on his showings whilst Gay Broney will be making his debut. Keith Lu has been schooled for twelve months or more and may suit this department The others may be at long prices. Saluting the judge may be KEITH LU, COLLISION, SPEARCOUR.

GREAT NORTHERN HURDLES, of £lOOO. Two miles and a half. —Jolly Beggar 11.13, Erination 10.10, Sandy Dix, Royal Limond, Prince of Orange 9.9, High Quality, Lap Up 9.8, Roxy 9.5, Master Musk, Modern Maid 9.5. Tout le Monde, Lord Vai 9.2, Palui, Huskie, Killadar, Irish Comet, Monastic, Valpeen, Free Air, Black Marlin 9.0. An exceptionally large field appears in, and may compete for, the Great Northern Hurdles. Jolly Beggar is bred' to win this type of race and has proven his ability to carry weight and is likely to create a weight-carry-ing record Lord Vai an aged horse ■s very fit, quite dbwn the seals, and should see out this distance. Roxy beat Black Marlin so comfortably and my account for him here, but the latter will be improved by his third and first at Te Rapa. Erination appears to be fully loaded but Sandy Dix is in nicely to be troublesome. Tout le M'-ntie may b e a well fancied one. Matter Musk Is schooling better and with Huskie end Klllodar possess chances. Lap Up may not ce strongly supported, but mos't likely will secure a place on subsequent days. Pahu amd Free Air are n o t chanceless Royal Limond, II gn Quality and Modern Maid make but weak appeal. The remainder would b e at long prices JOLLY BEGGAR, LORD VAL, ROXY. * * * CORNWALL HANDICAP, of £550. One mile and a quarter.—King Rey 9.4, Scotland 8.11, Gay Rose 8.7. Tooley Street 8.6, Royal Appellant 8.1, Grateful 8.0, Knight of Australia, Royal Dance, Day Wind 7.12, Dark Shadow 7.11, Horowhenua 7.8, Armacourt, Boomerang, De Friend, Eng,3, Grand City, Jewelled Girdle, Mungatoon, Light Comedy, Loombination, ’ Prince Colossus, Te Hai, Tradesman, ’ Valniint 7.7. The "Cornwall with twencty-four receptors is another puzzler. K’ng Rey is reported at his best and favours. soft going but appears to have the. task before him. Scotland, another good one, appears fully loaded. Gay Rose in great form, has risen to 8.7 a weight she never successfully carries in this company. Royal Appellant 8.1 catches the eye and strong- i ly appeals. The Tooley Street —Horo. whenua bracket, must be well supported, whilst Knight of Australia and Dark Shadow sit nicely. Armacourt can be expected Io give a creditable performance, whilst Enge may soon return to the winning list. De Friend has won over this distance and his devastating finishing run over seven furlongs pronounces big claim. Royal Pence, Day Wind, Boomerang, Prince Colossus and Tradesman appeal over the others ROYAL APPELLANT, DE FRIEND, ARMACOURT. * * * HUNT CLUB HURDLES, of £309. Two miles.—Cynical Kid 10.9, Tangled 10.6, Englishman 10.3, Croyden 9.10, Lady England, All Irish, Royal Nation 9.7, Gay Cavalier 9.1, Bells of Bow, fiozel, f-ochiel Lad, Smilin’ Thru, Huntsman's Chorus 9.0. All Irish appears to stand out here and recent track efforts may make him favourite. Cynical Kid may carry strong support to secure a Place. Rozel a half-sister to Haakon, is an interesting runner which may a'itraet many. Tangled is a fair sort and with Croyden and Bells of Bow ore prospects. Greatest support may come for ALL IRISH, ROZEL, CYNICAL KID. * * * MEMBERS’ HANDICAP, of £350. Six furlongs.—Whirling 9.9, Peter Beckford 9.7, Mata Hari 8.11, Black Thread, Kiltowyn 8.10, Greek Gold 8.8, Adalene, Prince Acre. Shy, Kilonsoa 8.6, Paso Robles, Surella, High Tea 8.5, Versant 8.0. is .class and can carry weight, and consequently must be strongly supported Peter Beckford has performed so w'll to merit 9.7, one stone more than many fast ones below him. Ad'alene it due for one at the meeting and Greek Gold shibuTd be quite tiuned up after his four outings. Prince Acre has missed so many that Kllonsoa comes in. lahead. Surella is presumed to run here and it l sure of fair support, but will find this much harder company than Ha. wera. Black Tread is a likely o ne, whilst Paso Robles and High Tea, are not chanceless Versant is well spoken of at present. Sky returns to sprints whilst Kiltowyn may need the race. Those in the places may be ADELENE, KILONSOA, GREEK GOLD.
