A large sedan ear taken from Auckland last night i.s b.Uievedi to have been involved in a sensational inci. dent at Brcokby at 1.30 o’clack tlhis nwrning when th e driver of the car, it is alleged, deliberately attempted to run .down William Moody, contractor, who discovered that 15 gallons of petrol had been drawn from a petrol pump at a gat e lo.id'ing to his.' property.
Mr Moody was awakened by unusual sounds au'l, looking towards the gate, he saw a large’ motor car coasting slowly down the hill. By the time he reached the gat e the car had turned round andi was coming back towards life property. Noticing that ths hose of the petrol
pump had been cut through, Mr Moody stepped out in front of the car and held up his hand to signal the driver to stop. Mr. Moody ialleges that the driver switched off his headlights, speeded up and drov e straight at him. He had to jump out of the way to avoid being knocked down. The car drove off at high speed. Mr Moody communicated with the police and a constable who followed the tracks found- that the car hit a bank but was righted-. A car was found this morning damaged and abandoned in the city.
