The village of Monts has been transformed into a carnival town crowded with visitors, none of whom can expect more than vicarious thrill of being in the: neighbourhood of* the most romantic wedding of modern times. Brilliant sunshine attracted' scores of charabancs and hundreds of cars from nearby towns. Detachments of police took up positions on all the roads leading to tihe Chateau, and two aeroplanes flew overhead. The Press representatives werei not allowed to telephone or leave the Chateau until the ceremony was over.

“Accompanying their thoughts Will go affectionate remembrance and the best of good wishes. Edward judged it expedient to surrender the privileges and burdens of the Monarchy tor the sake of the woman he loved, ahd whom the State would not accept. Today criticism should be silent. Maiy those who would still persecute him learn soon the virtu e of charity.’’
