WORKERS IN HOTELS
New Award Sought Press Association—Copyright. Wellington, June 3. Wages and conditions of work for hotel workers throughout the Dominion Were considered before the Conciliation Comtaissioher, Mr S. Ritchie, by representatives of the New Zealand Federated and Restaurant Employees’ Industrial Asfociation ‘Workers and the employers. The employees claimed a 40-hour week, two full days’ holiday a week and seven days’ holiday on. full pay after six months’ service. They also claimed substantial increases in
wages. The employers asked for a 44-hour week and presented an amended, wages scale. Both parties agreed that overtime should be paid for at the rate of time and a. half for the first tour hours and double time thereafter. For work done on special days such as Christmas, Day, Boxing Day, Good Friday, etc, time and half rates are. to be paid.
