TOURING BOWLERS. Three rinks of bowlers from Nelson who arrived at Sydney by the Maunganui yesterday played a team at Waverley t N.S.W., to-day. The visitors were beaten by 57 points to 41. usr. OF EXPLOSIVES ALLEGED. At the Supreme Court, Greymouth, yesterday, Maurice Moore, aged 65 years, was charged with wilfully damagii g by explosives a house valued at £3O. After a long hearing the jury retired and returned four hours later to announce a disagreement. A new trial was ordered for to-day on the application of the Croton Prosecutor, bail of £2OO and two sureties of £lOO being allowed. AUCKLAND PROPERTY SALE. Another purchase of Queen Street (Auckland) property has been made by the B°.nk of New Zealand. Yesterday it acquired a three-storey building on the east side of Queen Street above Wellesley Street, occupied on '.he ground- floor by Barry and Beale Ltd., the Lido milk bar and Cathay House, the seller being Mr W. H. Bartlett, who once occupied part of the premises. The price paid was a little more than £6OO a foot on the frontacre to Queen Street. The frontage is 33 feet, and there ig a depth of 88£ "feet. PILOTS FOR NEW SERVICE. Tn the initial stages the'- AucklandWellington air service will be flown by four of Union Airways’ senior pilots, Commanders Blythe, Gerrand, Duthie and White. Arrangements already concluded at Auckland include the letting of a contract for a motor service between Auckland and the Mangere aerodrome for convenience of travellers by air. Fares for the flight will be inclusive of the necessary motor transport. The inauguration of the new service will make it possible for a traveller fr.om Dunedin to leave there in one of the fourengined de Havilands at 8.15 a.m. and to be at Auckland by three o’clock in the same afternoon.
STRATFORD HOSPITAL. The visit of the Acting-Prime Minister, Hon.. P. Fraser, to Stratford next week has been suggested las a Sood opportunity for th e official open" ng of the new hospital block and the installation of the radio. It is understood that the matter will be considered at a special meeting of the Hospital Board on Saturday. ■RAINFALL AT INGLEWOOD. I The rainfail at “Riversdale,” Inglewood, for May totalled 10.16 inches, ' h. e heaviest falls being on the Ist (1.22), Sth (1.22), 14th (1.10), and 16th (2.29), reports Miss N. Trimble, observer. There was no rain on fifteen days during the month. The I rainfall for -May, 1936, was 3.80 in. on I 12 dafs. The average rainfall for May iis 9.80 in. The maximum fall is, ; 28.26 in. in 1903, and the minimum , fall is 3:72m. in 1919. CLAIMS FOR DEBT. Judgment for plaintiffs by default was entered by Mr W. H. At a meeting of the executive of phe New Zealand Rugby Union last -even.ng, the chairman, Mr S. S. Dean, Idrew att-ehtion to by-law 46 of the 1 Rugby Football Union, which reads: I No member of a committee of 'the I'nion and, unless engaged in -the Piofesslon of .journalism, no committeeman of any constituent body or club under the jurisdiction of the union, or referee, or player, shall write, give information or interview for the Press or broadcast on current Rugby football for remuneration.” Mr Dean said 'the- New Zealand union expected this rule .to be carried out ,n its- entirety.
