New Zealanders showed more confidence and aggression in their batting to-day, scoring freely, but Lancashire forced, a win after the declaration made by New Zealand in the second innings of 227 for six wickets.

After Hadlee and Moloney carefully took the score 'to 53,, Donnelly forced tlr e place. The driving and hooking of Wallace, who hit 17 fours, was great to watch. Hadlee batted with great patience, staying in 'two and ahalf hours while 172 runs were compiled. The declaration left the County two and a hlalf hours to make? 196, Cowie (took a wicket in the first over, but thereafter .the County maintained the pace.
