Austin Freeman, creator of “Dr. Thorndyke,” who as a crime investigator rivals Sherlock Holmes himself says his favourite smoke is the after! breakfast one. Plenty will agree with him but some may ask: “How about the after-lunch pipe, the after-dinner Pipe, and the pipe before turning in?” Fact is, a smoke is always welcome to a smoker. “I vow and believe,” wrote Thackeray, “that tobacco has been one of the greatest comforts of rny life. ’ But just as it is not all gold .hat glitters, it's not all tobacco that’s as good as it’s cracked up to be. Inferior brands may satisfy those who are not critical, but the smoker knows what’s what—and values his healthmust have the best. Hence the everexpanding demand for “toasted”—i.e., Cut Plug No. 10 (Bullshead), Cavendish, Navy Cut No. 3 (Bulldog), Riverhead Gold and Desert Gold, which combine a beautiful flavour with a fascinating bouquet while their extraordinary purity (due to the manufacturers’ exclusive toasting process) renders them harmless even to the smoker who is always smoking!
