CONDITIONS IN DISPUTE Important Points Not Settled Press Association—Copvrlght Wellington, May 31. The wages and working conditions in New Zealand dairy factories were discussed in a Dominion dispute before the Conciliation Council ,to-day, more than 360 factories' being cited. The employees sought a five-day 40-hour week, and the employers seasonal variations in the working week rangfng from 40 to 48 hours in butter factories and from 3,8 to. 52 hours in cheese, casein, milk powder and condensed milk factories.
The employees asked for wages ranging from £5 5s to £6 10s for butter and cheese factory assistants, and the employers offered £4 Is? to £5 3s 6d. The question of exempting herd-testing was referred to the court. The employees also askeel tor three weeks’ holiday on full pay. After a full day s hearing no agreement was rebc-hed on wages or hours or on the other clauses of vital importance. The council is to resume this morning.
