The Canadian, Bert Levy, questioned about the in. surgent statement that they were well treated, said: “I would like to Push that lie down the thoat of whoever said it. We were practically starved, and covered with vermin. There was no water to clean ourselves. We were forced to sleep on th' ground, and ten of our comrades died of lung trouble.”

John Montgomery, of Glasgow, confirmed Mr Levy's statement.
