CRICKET TOUR

DOMINION PLAYERS Match With Lancashire Press Association—Copyright. London, May 30. With the team facing the stiffest trial of the tour so far on the Old Trafford cricket ground, where they will play England in the second Test, the New Zealanders opened inauspiciously on a perfect -wicket in delightful weather against Lancashire. When stumps were drawn nine wickets were down for 272 runs. The first three wickets fell in an hour and a-lialf for 56 runs. Wallace and Moloney then retrieved the position considerably, largely through another aggressively brilliant innings by Wallace, who hit six fours, three threes and only five singles in an hour, giving an attractive display of driving, hooking and cutting. Sixtyeight runs were added for the fourth wicket. Moloney took over two hours to reach the half-century, but he held the innings together, being undisturbed by any bowlers. Donnelly assisted with , a stand that produced 29 runs before falling to the new ball. Moloney after 220 minutes’ patient batting, with only three bound-

ary strokes, was similarly dismissed. Lamason and Tindill were just settling down when a thunderstorm interrupted play for nearly half an hour. The pair then steadily compiled an invaluable 57 runs in a timely partnership for (the ninth wicket, nei_ ther appearing greatly troubled by the attack, though the scoring Tate was slow'. Tindill was unbeaten after batting an hour and a-quarter. New Zealand finished the day with the highest total of the tour, a performance which seemed improbable at lunch.
