The candidates selected for appointment to short service commissions in the Royal Air Force and the Royal New Zealand Air Force were announced to-night by the Minister of Defence, Hon. F. Jones. Applications for qhese appointments were invited at the end of March. Twenty-nine candidates ha' e so far been appointed —lour to short service commissions in the Royal New Zealand Air Force. seven for training in New Zealand prior to appointment to short service commissions in the Royal Air Force, and 18 for direct entry into the Royal Air Force. Carmichael (Christchurch). S, W. R. Hughes (Auckland), K. E. New. ton (Okoroire), Bassett (Dargaville), C. W. Bromley (Christchurch), V. S. Reynolds (Lower Hutn), T. B. Fitzgerald (Temuka). The above candidates also will be required to present themselves at Wigram aerodrome, Christchurch, on June 8.
For direct entry Into the Royal AitForce: D. Carlson (Auckland), T. N. Silk (Wanganui), A. C. Glenday (Christchurch), K. N. Gray (Wanganui), K. J. A. Johnstone (Auck_ land), A. W. Nelson (Wellington), K. F. Vare (Wellington), p. Shennan (Wellington), R. w. McCarthy (Chrstchurch), w. R. McComb (Auckland), J. R Neill (Dunedin), K. N. Rea (Taranaki), H. A. Tren-t-hard (Wellington), W. D. Tuckwell (Wellington),_G. F. Tallon (CanterItiiy), N. McClelland (Canterbury). Most of these candidates will be required to leave New Zealand early in July, but they wilf each be advised by letter within the next few days. The appointment of an engineer officer to a permanent commission in tIM Royal New Zealand Air Force has not yet been finalised, but it is ex. pected that an announcement concerning this will be made within the next few days.
