DARGAVILLE RAILWAY
EARLY START PROMISED Level Crossing Problem Dargaville,-May 29. An eai'ly start on the work of completing the Dargaville branch railway was promised by the Minister of Public Works, Hon It. Semple, when he discussed the position with a local body deputation in ,I'j rgayiilc. “I have already told jon that the Cabinet has decided to complete (lie line,” Mr. Seihple sijiJ. “One of the principal reasons why the work has been held up is the question of the railway station site in Dargaville itself This involves the question of railway crossings, .Tjip original site would mean the- presence of five level crossings and as we are endeavouring to eliminate them in other parts of the Dominion we, decided that we should make arrangements here to obviate level crossings from the outset. A survey has been ml:de by the Public Works Department. We expect a decision any time now and, as soon as it is received we shall be ready to go ahead. Our aim is to eliminate these level crossings if. tfle costs permits.”
