METHOD OF COMPUTATION Auckland Farmers’ Suggestion Press Association —Copyright. Auckland, May 21. Criticism <>f the constitution of the New Zealand Dairy Board was expressed at the Auckland conference of Jie Farmers’ Union to-day. A rej commendation to the union executive 1 urged the adoption of a new system for the composition of the board find for the computation of the guaranteed price for dairy produce. The conference held that the Dairy Board should be reconstructed -an a democratic basis, directly representing .suppliers on a ward system. In computing the price of dairy produce it was urged that an independent tribunal of statisticians should be set up for from eight to ;ten years under the presidency of a Supreme Court judge. It was proposed ‘.hat the personnel should be agreed upon by a committee consisting of equal numbers of members nominated by i the dairy industry as seller, and by | ths Government as buyer. The recommendation considered the price should be determined by 'he tribunal from the evidence placed before it and accepted by the Government, iand that the findings of the tribunal should be- treated in the same manner as those of 'the Arbitration Court. The attention of the Governnmwas called to the increasing costs • born by primary industries, which ) had no opportunity of passing them ‘on to consumers. An emphatic opinion was exreesed that a substantial addition to the price for 'butterfat and cheese for the current season was essential if the farmer’s standard of living was not to be further reduced and farm productive capacity jeopardised.
