GERMAN ANGER

AT U.S. ARCHBISHOP NAZI PROTEST Hitler Described As Austrian Paperhanger Press Association —Copyright. (Received*. May 21, 11.5 a.m.) Berlin, May 20. The Government has decided to protest to the United States Government against the attack on Germany by Archbishop Mundelein, of Chicago. The Press of the country bitterly criticises Archbishop Mundelein, one newspaper heading its report: “Shameless, lying campaign.” Under the heading, “Cardinal Uses Gutter Language,” Dr. Goebbels’ newspaper, Angriff, commenting on the description by Archbishop Mundelein, of Chicago, of Herr Hitler as “an Austrian paperhanger,” says: “It is a declaration of war and an insult to the entire German nation, including Catholics.” The paper adds: “If Archbishop Mundelein is impertinent enough to talk about atrocity stories and allege that Dr. Goebbels asserted that immorality prevailed in all branches of the Catholic Church, he will superimpose more dangerous lies upon his first one. Will the Holy See allow him to abuse Germany # with impunity?”
