INSPECTOR’S REPORT East Committee Subsidies The monthly meeting of the Slratford County Council was held today. Present were: Councillors T. R. Anderson (chairman), H. C. Taylor, J. C. Best, C. Skitrop, B. Hutchen, G. Jensen, L. Stanford, W. Vickers, S. Pitt. “Most ot my time has geen givAn to the collection of the dog tax,” reported the inspector, Mr S. G. Cuff. “During the past nine weeks over 1000 have been registered. The weather hag not been conducive to much hanging of county roads. There were few cases of wandering stock and any complaints' had been attended to promptly. Motor drivers’ licenses for the past 12 months have been very satisfactory. Licenses for the new season are being issued freely. Heavy traffic licenses are in a satisfactory position. Some time has been given to the examination of ’O.K's’ and affixing stickers to cars.” No Application Made. It appeared that no application for the grant in respect of the. past year wa s received from the Park Board, wrote Mr G. A. Carter, secretary of the East Committee, and he was instructed by the committee to aply for last year's and the current year's grants. Mr Percy Thomson, member of the East Committee, waited upon the council in support of the application. The council decided to defer con. sideration until dealing with the estimates at a later stage of the meeting. The utilisation of scheme No. 5 by the council to cut back corners and make other improvements on Stanley Rend, was approved by the Department of Labour. Eight men could be employed and the approval was contingent on the council’s supplementing the allocation ot the men concerned to the nearest half-day. North Riding Roads. A deputation of settlers’ on the Monmow h, Radnor, Denbigh, York and Rutland Roads waited'upon the council In rCgcrd to the bad state ot the roads in the western area of the north riding. Mr H. A. Hunt said hat considerable expense would’ be necessary to put the roads in proper repair and it was desired to ascer. lain how the cost could be financed. Cr. Pitt said the roads had reached ia stage when they were pas* patching I and something would have to be dz.ift. It was unfortunate that fhe settlers were not in .the original loan and now had to pay for it.
