During Mr. W. Higgins's -absence in England, L. Faulkiner has ridden Debha.m and Korero to good op--n wins for him. * * * Export as well as Dorado now races in the colours of his trainer, M. Williams. Williams recen ly secured him under sub_relea.se. * * * AJunga’s rider at O'taki on the first day appeared to be caught napping when the barrier arose. This field required a lot of pa ience to start. * * * Terry, who has not been in the money for some time, is looking very well at present, and she made up a 10*1 of ground in finishing fourth in the final race at Otaki last Wednesday. * * * Even Money, who come on the scene late to finish third to Grampian and War Lap at Otaki last Wednesday, u< an aged mare by the Poly_ damon horse Golden Sovereign. She was a maiden winner at Bulls in March. * * * The support that came for Marcus Cicero at\ Otaki was rather surprising in view of his short preparation, but that race will have improved him a lot. Like Korero, he is being naced in a special elastic bandage. \ * * * The well-performed Lord Quex — Termination gelding Prostration, winner of <£llBs in two seasons’ rac_ ing in New Zealand, is expected to join M. Conza’s team shortly, says a Riccarton report. Prostration is now six years old., and since the end of last season he has been spelling on the property of his new owner, Mr. D. Leamen, of Parnassus. * * * Lady Zona, one of the fresh horses in the novice race at Otaki, is a four-year-old half-sister by the Polydamon horse Thomond to the useful Jubilee Song, anidi she races in the same interests. She has had only two starts to date, and she looks one who may soon be making good.
Pharoah’s Good Breeding Pharaoh,-a member of J. T. Jamieson’s team in Sydney, and who impressed the critics in the manner of his success in the Sandringham Nursery Handicap at the A.J.C. Coronation Meeting on Wednesday, is a two.year-old chesnut gelding by Chief Ruler from the Weathervane—Dame Winkle mare Rady Pym, and he is thus a full-brother to First Consul, who won -the W.A.T.C. Sires’ Stakes two years ago and. has since been a good performer in Western Australia. He wag bred fry Mr. J. J. McGrath at The Curragh Stud', Woikanae, and at the Trentham sales last year he was bought by J. T. Jamieson for 250 guineas on behalf of one of his patrons, Mr. J. Harris. The Sydney report of' his win men. tiions 'that he gives great promise of developing slaying ability next season, and when one studies his Pedigree it is seen that this view is based on solid ground. Lady Pym was by Weathervane out of Dame Winkie, who was a half-sister by Winkie to Anitea, the dam of Rapier, also to Nottava, the dam of Gesture and Miss Nottava; and Dame Winkle’s dam was famous Stepfeldt’s sister Stepk'a, dam of the Wellington Cup winner Pavlova and half-sister to Elevation. Provocation, Reputation, and to- the grandam of Suggestion, Stanchion, Prostration, etc. Lady Pym’s latest foal is a bay Ally by Leighon who is said to be a particularly good looker.
Chu Chin Chow’s Lines Mr. S. Green tired l of Chu Chin Chow, and sold him a few weeks ago to Mr. W. R. Kemball for 170 guineas. For his new owner, the -colt won the first division of the two-year-old Montrose Handicap at the V.T. and R.A. Meeting at Ascot (Melbourne) a fortnight ago. Chu Chin Chow made one act of the race, as he led practically the whole of the way and won fairly, easily from Son of Aurous and Orlanl do. He is a bay colt by Verbius (son of Swynford') from imported Chili Bom Bom, by White Eagle (son of Gallinule) from Mine Own, by the Derby winner Minoru, and' he was bred by Mr. Green at the Underbank Stud, Bacchus Marsh. Lord Derby’s Jockey Originally apprenticed to F. Leader, Richard Perryman this season will be the- first jockey for Lord Derby, whose horses are trained by C. Leader. Perryman was sixth on the list of winners out of 474 mounts. The previous year he was third with 87 wins, and in the year 1934 was fourth, although he rode more winners, 90 to be exact. Perryman, who can now go to scale at Bst 41b, and so has to be reckon. 1 ed’ among the heavyweights, won his first classic, the One Thousand
Guine-as, on Mr. A. de Pillion in 1926. Last season .again won this race on Lord Derby'; Tideway. One of his greatest asses is exceptionally good hands,’ while he can ride a strong finish with lititle recourse to the whip.
