GRADING TEACHERS
MINISTER’S REVIEW Fair System Wanted Press Association—Copyright. Wellington, May 19. One of the most important objects of education was to try to equip men and women to think for themselves, and that was never more needed than at present, said the Minister of Education, Hon. P. Fraser, when addressing the annual conference of the New Zealand Educational Institute yester day. He thanked the members for their co-operation with him and his Department, and said two outstanding matters on which co-operation was sought were those dealing with school books, and with staffing and grading of schools and salaries. Those present knew more about the question of grading of teachers than he did, said the Minister, and he looped that as a result of the committee’s deliberations they would have a system that would be fair to the teachers, give the opportunity to enterprising and capable teachers to give of their best, and give the full advantage of the best education to the children.
