Fair when Alan Sydney Saunders was placed in the dock at the Supreme Court to-day charged with incest. “In considering the facts placed before me I have given consideration to the question whether a flogging should not be imposed to prevent offences of this kind,” proceeded His Honour, “if a man’s natural feelings are not sufficient to restrain him from repeating this type of offence it appears he can only be deterred by fear of physical punishment.” The prisoner, who had admitted the offence, had been committed from Kaitaia. The sentence of the court, was five years’ hard labour. A sentence of one year’s hard labour, Concurrent .with the first. sentence, was imposed on a.further charge of indecent assault of a female.
