REPORTS TO COUNCIL Gleanings From The Monthly Meeting Rubbish Removal. If people do not put out their rubbish they will be prosecuted with cut further . notice, the Stratford EJarough Council decided, ■at last night’s meeting. Town Hall Renovation. For renovating he Town Hall the sum of £lOO has been placed on the Estimates for the year. No Heaters to be Supplied. That the Council cannot see lie way to supply any heaters was the ans*. wer given to a request for one made by a. tenant in. the Municipal Buildinge. Requests for Street Lights. The request for a street light in Ariel Street north wa® granted, but a similar .application regarding Swansea Road between Regan Street and Pembroke Road, was refused. Fire Prevention, Estimates. The Council decided to place an amount of £27 15s on the Estimates and that the “social fund” of the brigade be deleted. Motor Drivers’ Licenses., The council resolved that the Tauranga Borough Council’s emphatic protest against the proposed legislation be heartily approved.
Taxis and Carrying Services. The Minister of Transport is to be advised that in the opinion of the Stratford Borough Council the control or these services is best served in the manner in which it is being conducted; at the present time. Electrical Supply. There was an increase of 10,600 in the number of units purchased during April compared with the same month last year. Abattoir Killings. During the month of April, the, following stock was slaughtered: Cows 146, heifers 45, calves 16. sheep 288, lambs 12, pigs 70. Licensing Fees. The collection of license fees since the end of the financial year amounted to £164 13s as follows: Vehicle £l2 15s, dangerous goods £45, kerbside pumps £7O, health £3 2s 6d, billiandi rooms and public hails £l6, building and drainage £l3 15s 6d, clr. cug £3, hawker £l. Library Report. The report for April, showed that 3091 books were Issued, and 40 new books added to the list. Twenty new subscribers were registered, and the amount of -subscriptions received was £3l 3s 6d. Abattoir Firewood. No tenders were received by the •council for a supply of firewood and it was resolved that all timber 'out out.in improving the park be handed to the abattoir. Infectious Diseases. No cases were reported during , the month. Special attention is being given to the cleanliness of food preraises and to the removal 'of rubbish. • Rest Room Overhaul. A general overhaul of the Rest Rooms is required, reported Inspector Sayers, who supplied the council with details -of the work, which would cost about £2O. Tenders are to be called for the work.
Dominion Award. The Electric Power Boards and. Supply Authorities Association are to be advised that the. council strongly prefer the Taranaki Union to employees joining up with the Dominion Union. 30 m.p.h. De. Restriction Areas. The following recommendations of the Transport Department were approved : —Auckland-Wellington Main Highway: From Northern Boundary to Craig Street; from South Boundary to Romeo Street. Stratford Junction Main Highways (Opunake Road): From Western Boundary to Brecon Road. Roads and Footpaths. The foreman (Mr. R. Richards) reported on work done on Cordelia Street from Celia Street to Warwick Road, footpaths in Percy Avenue, watertable and culvert-cleaning on practically all the streets on the south side of the river, footpaths at the Farmers’ Co-op. new buildings, Broadway Central footpaths and roadway, and blinding repairs on Pembroke Road east, Romeo Street west. Brecon Road south, and War. wick Road west. Traffic Control. Copies of the regulations dealing with pedestrian and bicycle traffic
have br.en made out and sent to Stratford public schools, reported Inspector Sayers. Pedestrian lines required by the school have been marked out. Two in form ai ions were heard at the court, for overloading .motor truck and! for parking vehicle on pedestrian crossing, and six motorists were warned for faulty headlights.
