GLAMORCAN’S LEAD
MATCH AT CARDIFF PERFECT HOLIDAY WEATHER N.Z. Bowlers’ Difficult Task (From the special correspondent of ‘he United Press Association with the team). (Received 10.35 a.m.) Cardiff, May 17. There was perfect holiday weather to-day- for ' the resumption of the cricket match between New Zealand and Glamorgan. The attendance was 6000—the largest crowdi ever to watch a touring team at Cardiff. Glamorgan in the first innings scored 338. New Zealand in the first innings scored 235, and in the second innings had compiled 32 for tlie loss of three wickets when stumps "were drawn. A billiard table wicket, from which the ball came through at an easy pace and height, nullified the nianrul efforts of the perservering bowlers and enabled the County to secure the lead. The New Zealanders began by capturing four wickets in just over an hour. Then Duckfield and Smart, in a fine fifth-wicket partnership, put the County in a strong position. Duckfield played correct cricket for three hours and scored a sound century, including a dozen fours. Smart batted an hour and a-half and hit eight fours. H. Davie s . was aggressive, hitting five fours and a six. The bowlers stuck gamely to their difficult task. Dunning was remarkably steady for long periods. Roberts also was consistently accurate and took two quick wickete at the tail end. Vivian kept the scoring rate down by clever flighting. Tindill had a great day behind the stumps. The fielding generally was excellent. New Zealand may have a troublesome period early to-morrow, owing jto the morning dew.
