LIBRARY INCOME

Purchase Of New Books In view of the increase of £39 in income from subscribers and the cost of new books the Stratford library committee asked the council last night for an increase in the grant for new books from £147 to £172. A total of 500 new books was added to the library last year, it was stated and the committee was confident a further increase of subscribers could be expected if it could purchase sufficient new books. All that the committee was asking for was that the extra amount of subscriptions should be used in the purchase of books, Cr. W. P. P. Gordon said. The Mayor, Mr J. W. McMillan, pointed out that provision had been made in the estimates for the purpose.
