Fraser, yesterday released a report of the inquiry into the loss of the Scow Rangi in the Hauraki Gulf on January 14, when four men were drowned'. Although some of the side fastenings appeared to be in fair condition, some had been greatly weakened by corrosion. The vessel was properly equipped with life.sa.ving equipment but. 'the appliances' were not kept in a lifeboat. Life-saving equipment, was kept in a locker on deck and the locker was washed overboard. The vessel was manned: as- required by law and Was not overloaded.
