GERMAN FLAG STOLEN

PARLIAMENT HOUSE GROUNDS Queer Sense Of Patriotism Press Association —CopyrightWellington, May 13. Twice this week the flag of Nazi Germany has been stolen from the grounds of Parliament House. The second theft was committed shortly after dusk to-day in spite of official vigilance. The thefts are believed to be the work of some person or persons with a warped sense of patriot. ( ism. When the bunting was arranged in the grounds by the Public Works Department it was decided: to fly only Empire fl’ags from various poles and to use the flags of other nations as a complimentary background. No exceptions were in the choice of these latter flags, but care was taken to see that all received equal prominence. Thus the German fliag was included with the hammer and sickle flag of Soviet Russia and a number of others hanging in a row near the Parliamentary library, near enough to the ground to be reached! with ease by anyone standing between the poles.

Last night the German flag disappeared, having been torn down roughly. To-day the missing flag was replaced and instructions given t® have the grounds patrolled, but after dark the second flag disappeared. Other flags have been Stolen from various points in the city, but 'this: appears to be the only case of deliberate removal of the flag of one particular nation.
