In the Davis Cup doubles to-day, Farquharson and Kirby (South Africa) defeated C. A- Malfroy and E. ID. Andrews (New Zealand), 7—5, 6—2, 6—2. A. E. Stedman has strained a ligal ment in his leg and will be unable to play for four or five weeks, for which reason Andrews partnered Malfroy In the doubles Andrews will also replace Stedman in the singles. The New Zealanders in to-day's j match started raggedly. The South [Africans were more impressive, I especially -Kirby find Farquharson’s low volleying at the net scored many winners. The South Africans led 5—4 in the first set. I Farquharson’s overhead work dom- , inatod the play in the second set and 'smashed m ay short lobs. The South Africans in the third set combined still better. Kirby hit many winners from the return service. The New Zealanders could hold the service only twice.
