CORONATION MEETINGS
HAWERA RACES TO-MORROW REVIEW OF THE FIELDS
(BY "ODDS ON.’’) The Egmont Racing Club’s winter meeting opens on Wednesday and promises to be i s most successful tor some years. The hurdles and steeples have drawn good class horset both days. The other fifel-du ir e also nicely filled and interesting racing will be conducted on the Iwo ;,00l system of wagering on. '.he total, itutor. * * * TONGAHOE HURDLES, of £l5O. One mile and a-half. —Clarion Call 11.5, Sporting Song 9.9, Tout le Monde 9.9, Hunting Queen 9.9, Boughal 9.3, Petrarch, Dancing Lady 9.0. Clarion Call with all his weight is good enough'to probably claim the full support deserved. Sporting Songclaims engagements elsewhere, but may be second fancy here it produced. Tout le Monde will carry most of the • local cash for good rack work, but Hunting Queen will fully. extend him. Goughal is quite expected, whilst Dancing Lady has schooled well. Should Petrarch be ready he would be dangerous. CLARION CALL, HUNTING QUEEN, tout le monde. * * * CORONATION STAKES, of £125. Six furlongs.—Captain Treville, Dawn Star, Sorcery, Basra, Te Huia, Waiwhetu, River Feale. Swift Sand, Golden Rill, Lady Hoariri 8.6, Golden Orchid, Fafner, Vadanoe 7.10. Two local ones in Fafner and Vadanoe are now ready to extend this field. Bas ra. has not been hurried and with Te Huia rapidly regaining form may be thereabouts. Dawn Star has improved' la' ely and will not want for support. Golden Rill seems better suited to winter conditions and may pull it off. Lady HoariH is well experienced and is not chance Tess. Sorcery has raced' over hurdles' and unless bet' er mannlered is not recommended. Golden Orchid has come along well lately but lacks the experience in this field. Anything erne should be equal to a score. A maiden event is very open, but likely ones are
FAFNER, VADANOE, BASRA. * * * FLYING HANDICAP, of £l5O. Six furlongs.—Red Manfred 9.0, Taitoru 8.13, Greek Gold 8.9, Lady Ina 8.4, Refresher 7.13, Solaria 7.10, Moatoa 7.7. With four runners owing to later engagements, this may be the small, eat field of the day. Greek Gold has been doing good track work and although unraced lately may receive chief support. Red' Manfred threatens a return to form, but Lady Ina attracts greatly. Tai’oru, where started, is such a good beginner as to require attention, whilst Solaria may stage a return to form on the easy tracks' and vanquish them all. Those securing places may be GREEK GOLD, LADY INA, SOLARIA. * * * TELEGRAPH HACK HANDICAP. Of £l3O. Six furlongs.—Hunting Maid 9.0, Myriam 8.13, Surella 8.9, Ngatirahiri 8.4, Flying Chief 8.3, Eara 8.2, Winsome Lu 8.1, Tupat 7.9, Colleen Gain 7.9, Maahanui 7.8, Autumn Leaf, Te Broney, Script 7.7. Hunting Maid may not be ready, but Myriam is a form horse. Surella appears to be racing more generously and if starter her e should secure 1 place. Ngatirahiri fresh from a spell, revels in heavy going and' presumed to be ready may b e hardest with only 8.4. Flying Chief will harry a fair portion of Hawera if reports are correct. Eara in lightly is due to bob up again, Winsome Lu ha s been pleasing lately but Colleen Gain should hold her safely. Tupai Maahanui and Te Broney possess l chances but the remainder will be at tong prices. Saluting the judge may be FLYING CHIEF,. MYRIAM, ngatirahiri. * * * EGMONT STEEPLECHASE, of £3OO. About two miles and a-half.— Bonnie Rollox 10.7, Forest Glow 10.2, Pahu 9.7, Don Erma 9.7, Cynical Kid 9.5, Sky Pilot, Monastic, Invictus 9.9.
Bonnie Rollex, a good' ’chaser and winner in Australia, has schooled satisfactorily but is hardly known in the going expected. Forest Glow’ sec. ond in last year’s event and recent 1.
second to Tudor at Ellerslie promises a good performance. Pahu is .getting old but so lightly weighted is very dangerous. In. nicely also is Don Erma a firtt-class jumper, has improved recen' ly on the flat and may ..ecure a place. Cynical Kid (Fryer’s 4ect) has been pleasing lately and may atone for his unsuccessful Australian trip. Monastric -and Sky Pilot have been schooling cleanly and fast, but th© former makes greater appeal..- Invictus with three placings in four hurdle starts in March should be fit and on the minimum here has fair prospects. Place getters may be FOREST GLOW, PAHU, DON ERMA. * * * McRAE CUP, of £250. One mile and a-quarter.—Arctic King 9.0, One Whetu 8.11, Davistock 8.5, Master Cyklon 8.4, Refresher 7.11, Parquet, Tahurangi, Windscreen, 7.7. Onewhetu is overdone, his slight toreness has disappeared and he is galloping freely, although his weight remains well up for placings secur r ed, a good weight carrier suited in winter going, 'this should b e his race. Arctic King won well at Woodville, has reached peak form, i s at home in heavy going and enjoys almost equal prospects! Davistock and Refresher, always believed to- require firm, conditions, may not be grea'-Iy fancied, but could quite easily upset things. Master Cyklon appears to Cavour firm conditions 'also but may disprove he theory. Parquet and Windscreen can hardly attract many although it is time for one#of the latter’s surprises, but Tahurarigi may effect a boil over. ONEWHETU, ARCTIC KING, . MASTER CYKLON, * * * HACK SCURRY, of £125. Five fur- | longs.—Erebus 9.3, Surella 8.9, First Chapter 8.3, Winsome Lu 8.2, Eagle’s Eye 8.0, Race Call 7.12, Hunting .Spy 7.10, Colleen Gain 7.10, Paul Rot Hon 7.7, Kia Ora 7.7. The places at the post niay assist here. Erebus with a jump out would be difficult to head. Surella if reserved and Eagle’s Eye are both smart. Race Call and Colleen Gain each secured second's recently and are at. ticicWve runners. Winsome Lu is [ pleasing lately, whilst a recent return to form by First Chapter enhances his prospects. Paul Robeson, was' second in a maiden on Saturday. With luck at barrier rise they may be EREBUS, SURELLA, EAGLE’S EYE. * * * TAWHITI HANDICAP, of £l5O. Seven furlongs.—Friesland 9.4, Taitoru 9.0, Lady Ina 8.5, International 8.3, Gold Mission 7.13, Solaria 7.10, Bantry 7.10, Darecourt 7.10, Collodion 7.8, Wasteland 7.7, Corowa 7.7. Friesland will’ no doubt command strong support, i s very well and suited by winter conditions, but 'there are ut least seven other horse's expected 'to start and the job is before him. Taitoru and Lady Ina if either ar e reserved are-likely ones, whilst International's recent double win proves he has “arrived.” Gold Mission is smart on a heayy track whilst Bantry 'also promises a reliable performance. Darecouirtf has /relcenlt placings of merit and a defector at Otaki pronounces^Their hopes here. Collodion is finishing on much better and with Wasteland and Corowa ie not chanceless. Corowa’s track work has been 'a mixture of schooling and sprinting, in the latter department! (especially pleasiijg. A good race may see them placed. FRIESLAND, BANTRY, INTErtNATIONAL.
