YOUTH EMPLOYMENT
BASIC WAGE REQUIREMENTS Seriousness Of Position Press Association —CoDyrlgat. Wellington, May 10. Consequent on reports, regarding the position of youths from 18 to 25 years of age affected by the basic wage requirements, representations we made to lh e acting-Prime Mintter, Hon. P. Fraser, and the actingMinister of Labour, Hon. P|. C. Webb, by a deputation to-day. The deputation, stated a report issued by the Chamber of Commerce to_day, found both Ministers ve|ry anxious to hear its suggestions for th e «ameloria‘ion of the situation. The acting-prime Minister said the Government was profoundly impressed with th e seriousness of the position from the point of view of the youths affected and expressed himself l as beIng animated with a desire to receive the co-operation of the commercial community and of those organisations interested to assist th e Government in finding a solution to the problem. Mr Webb indicated that it had been his intention to call a conference of all interested fas soon as possible so that the necessary arrangements couKi b e made. After hearing the deputation, he said, he was more than ever convinced of the urgency of the situation.
