HONOURS LIST
Coronation Commemoration London, April 17. The Honours List ’to be issued during Coronation Week may be the forerunner of regular May honours in future. It is being suggested that an Honours List should henceforth be issued every year on Empire Day, May 24. This would not only be a popular arrangement, but it would overcome a difficulty due to the fact that the King’s birthday falls in December. Hitherto there h vo b» 'll two H<»n ours Lists each year—the New Year Honours and the Birthday Honours. Since King George V’s. birthday was in June, this arrangement worked admirably during his reign. Because the present King’s birthday is > close to the New Year a new date will have to be chose . for the second list, and no one can think of a more suitable anniversary than Empire Day. The Coronation Honours List is likely to be one of the longest ever issued from Buckingham Palace. It will include honours for members of the Royal Family, foi many Empire leaders and for officials who have worked on the Coronation arrangements. Apart from all those, there will be a number of political honours connected with the coming Cabinet changes.
